Welcome

We welcome you to our website, which we set up to make our society a little better known.

The Bergische Verein für Familienkunde e. V. (BVfF), based in Wuppertal, was founded in 1980. Its members investigate into the ancestors of their own families.

achtungThe society offers assistance with its extensive Library. Please note the Opening Hours!

To support the members among themselves, there are genealogical work evenings and also thematically appropriate lectures or excursions. The next dates can be found under News & Dates.

Where we meet and how you can get there is listed under Meeting venue.

Under Antiquarian bookshop, the society offers antiquarian booklets and books from donations and estates.

On the page Contacts you will find all information about the management of the society and its bank account.

Neither the members of the society individually, nor the Board in particular, can undertake commissioned genealogical research. However, they are happy to provide information within the scope of their possibilities. For this reason, we have listed on the page Research areas the regions of our members where they are conducting more detailed research. There we are giveing members the opportunity to describe their research area in more detail.

achtungRemember to enclose a stamped envelope with your enquiries. Enquiries without a return envelope cannot be answered!

In addition to the research areas, the information on the Search sheet section is intended to help family researchers to come into closer contact.

The Bergische Datenpool is a database for searching and posting data related to the Bergische Land. Have a look and join in!

The Publications page lists the books and CDs published by the association, most of which are still available for purchase. Die Funzel, the official magazine of the  society has its separate page and can be downloaded there.

No society can do without formalities, so we have made our statutes and a membership forms available for viewing and downloading on the Formalities page.

The Links page rounds off our information offer at this point. There you will find interesting addresses and links to websites for genealogical research in the local area.

The society itself is a member of the Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft genealogischer Verbände e.V. (DAGV) and through the DAGV it is associated with the Verein für Computergenealogie e.V. (CompGen).

The society is managed in cooperation (personal union) with the District Group  Bergisch Land of the West German Society for Genealogy e. V., Köln (WGfF).
